Happy New Year Everyone

Well, Christmas has come and gone for another year, and I am eagerly waiting for the new year to begin. I have been under the weather since Christmas, but I am feeling much better now, and I will be creating some new art very soon. I have looked at a lot of art online recently, and the creativity I see is amazing. I am so inspired!
I want to add something new to my blog this year, because I feel that I must, and I hope that you will visit me often. I would like for you to leave me a comment if you need a prayer for yourself or someone you know. I will gladly pray with you because I do believe in the power of prayer, and guardian angels also. So if you would appreciate a prayer on your behalf, please leave your name in a comment or send me an email. God's love, peace and blessings on all of us as the new year draws near.

Theme Thursday Challenge: Friends Forever

Here is my entry in the Theme Thursday challenge. This week's theme is friends. I found this wonderful picture of the birds and I added the butterfly lady, the nest and the background with some stamping. I learned a neat trick from Lisa Vollrath for the title. I cut a narrow band of white paper and fed it through my Dymo label maker, and then I added color to it with my chalks. I think the lettering looks great, and you can make it any color you want!
Tomorrow is my local mixed media art group meet-up. I always look forward to seeing my friends and the fantastic things that they have made since we last met. If you can join a local group, I totally encourage you to do it. It is so much fun, and informative too.

Free Christmas downloads

http://artist-how-to.com/Christmascountdown07.htm Here is another place for you to get free Christmas images. Also, don't forget to go to Lisa Vollrath's web page too for more free images!
Today is Theme Thursday challenge and the theme is "Friends". I will be posting my art piece later today. Hope all of you are getting ready for Christmas. It is starting to look a little like Christmas here at home. Our Texas weather has been so fickled lately, but it is cold now for us in Central Texas.

Recycled Altoid Can

Here is an ornament I made using a Altoids can. I have seen some of the cans that were altered by Lisa Vollrath, http://www.gomakesomething.com/ so I tried her idea on a round can rather than the rectangular shaped can. I spray painted the can inside and out with gold spray paint, and let it dry. When it was dry, I punched a hole in the bottom part of the can, and then using E6000 I glued some beaded trim all the way around the can. While that was drying, I found an image I liked and used matte medium to glue it to the lid of the can, and I added glitter glue around the edge of the paper. Lastly, I ran some silver ribbon through the hole, and knotted it so it wouldn't come out, and tied another short ribbon around that and tied in a bow.I really like it, but in the photo the raised lettering on the can really shows. You might want to try two layers of paper, or adding some putty to the top and letting that dry and then add your image over that. The can will still pull apart to hide a little gift inside.

Skinny Saturday: Dream Angel

Here is my entry for the Skinny Saturday challenge (3 x 5). The theme this week is Dream. I really had a lot of fun with this one. I searched for some ornate image to make the skirt on this angel, and I hand colored it. Her wings are cutout petals from scrapbook paper, and using gold paint, I did the background and highlighted the rest of the piece. I hope you like it

Back Home Again

Well my sister and I got back into town around 6 this evening. We are both so worn out that we couldn't wait to get home. Of course I had to come check my blog, and I was going to make some art tonight, but I am totally too tired! Tomorrow is Skinny Saturday, and maybe I will go back and make something for 4x4 Friday. I hope you all have a wonderful evening with lots of rest!

Mixed Media Monday _ Wings

Well, I didn't get this piece done yesterday, but the theme of Wings is just too wonderful to pass up. So I know it's late, but here it is. I thought of all sorts of designs for this one, but I seem to never stray very far from my vintage, romantic favorites. I hope you will like it too.
I am planning to complete some other challenges this week, but I may only get to one more before I go out of town tomorrow night. I'll be back in a few days and then, look out! I'll be posting some more of my art.

4X4 Friday: Red

Here is my entry for today's challenge. This little girl looks completely full of mischief! This is about all I managed to finish today since I am still working on my blog setup, and somehow I cut my background image in half! Oh well tomorrow is another day...uah another day for me to screw up my new blog!

Theme Thursday: Snow

Today's theme is really great. It is winter or snow in unusual colors. I chose an image that I thought would look good with my black and creme background. I had fun making the little glittery snowflakes too. There is something close to magic when you see and capture a snowflake on a gloved hand. Too bad we don't get many opportunities to experience that feeling.

A Chocolate in the Mouth

Posted by Picasa

Twisted Tuesday Challenge

Yes, I realize it isn't Tuesday, but I have to start somewhere, so I wanted to enter my "Chocolate" for the theme this week of something sweet.

Still Setting Up

I have been all over the web looking at other blogs and trying to decide how to set up my own. Well, this is very time consuming, and I am still looking....I tried to add a photo, but I think the file is too large so I am going to work on that now and see if I can get it to upload.

MY FIRST POST!

I have thought for a while now about starting a blog, and with the urging from a friend, here it is. I am excited that I am actually doing this, and I hope that someday others will read it, and enjoy it.

I will be telling you things about myself as time goes by, but the first thing I want you to know is that I love art. I am a retired public school art teacher, and I love children's art, so I hope to feature some children's art here as well as some of my own .

After being an acrylic artist for years, I have discovered all of the altered and paper forms of art, and I have completely embraced them. I enjoy altered books and other objects, ATCs, and collages. You will see a variety of things here, and I will be posting my art as a result of various challenges from time to time. Also, I will tell you if a piece of my art is for sale, and if you are interested you can post a comment and I will get in touch with you.

Well, enough talk for now. I am going to add some photos of some of my recent art pieces, and I will continue to update with new art when available.
